I believe in children. I love thinking. I strive to raise problem solvers. I earned my Masters in Education from Stanford University. I worked double-time for National Board Certification while teaching middle school math and science in an Expeditionary Learning school. I taught math and science methods for pre-service teachers for a decade. I provide staff development to practicing teachers, and since 2004 have focussed my work on this key question: How can we teach for agency and understanding? Currently I serve as Senior Director of Education at the Denver-based Public Education and Business Coalition (PEBC). I travel locally and nationally to coach teachers, lead professional learning experiences, cultivate classroom learning labs, and facilitate institutes. So far, I have written four books bridging research about effective math and science pedagogy with classroom realities. I like to laugh and sing with my children and our tortoise, Brave.
